Autumn Checklist

  • Plant trees and shrubs.
  • Plant new hedges.
  • Transplant small trees and shrubs that need shifting.
  • Feed camellias, rhododendrons, azaleas, and daphne with acid plant food.
  • Rake up autumn leaves for the compost heap.
  • Sow sweet pea seeds directly into well prepared soil.
  • Sow new lawns, or revamp existing lawns.
  • Plant spring flowering bulbs.
  • Plant pots with winter flowering annuals, such as pansies, violas, polyanthus,
  • Cut back, lift and divide perennials.
  • Prepare and plant the winter vegetable garden. Seedlings to plant now include broccoli, spinach, cabbage, and lettuce.
  • Harvest pumpkins, potatoes, and onions before the frosts and store them in a cool dry place. 
  • Guard against slugs and snails which revel in autumn weather.
  • Divide and replant rhubarb into well composted soil.
  • Plant citrus trees, blueberries and raspberries.
